They ask residents to record all of the different bird species, and how many they spot over the course on one hour. Ot is the world’s largest garden wildlife survey and hundreds of thousands of nature lovers take part, to help to build a picture of how garden birds are faring in Britain.

Find out more about how you can easily get involved on the RSPB website for The Big Garden Bird Watch 2025.

And to get your little ones in the mood to do some bird spotting with you why not get them to make their very own set of binoculars, customised in their own very special design. It's very easy, all you need is...

• Two toilet roll tubes
• Paper
• Pens
• Stickers
• Scissors
• Tape
• Ribbon or string

Here's what you need to do

Take your two toilet roll tube and stick them together. This doesn't have to look neat as any tape will get covered up. Then, take a sheet of paper, cut to the length of the tubes, wrap it around both of them and secure in place.

You now had two toilet roll tubes covered in paper ready for decorating. You can do this anyway you like! Get the paints out, use stickers, stamps, pens, pencils...whatever you fancy.

When you've finished with the arty bit, get a hole punch and punch two holes on opposites sides of the tubes. This is for your string or ribbon. Simply thread through and tie in place.

There you go! You have your own pair of funky binos ready for spotting all those awesome birds that are going to visit your garden or outdoor space.
